FAQ

What are these chemicals used for?

Our pond treatment products provide a comprehensive approach to caring for your pond:

  • Dibrox will kill floating and submerged weeds
  • Mizzen will kill algae
  • SparKlear will eat excess nutrients and clear the water column
  • Dye will give your pond a beautiful deep blue look

What are the active ingredients?

  • Dibrox: diquat dibromide
  • Mizzen: copper triethanolamine complex
  • SparKlear: beneficial bacteria
  • Deep Blue dye: food grade dye

How do you apply these pond treatment chemicals?

Pour the dye directly into multiple places around the pond. For each of the other products, mix them with water in a sprayer and spray over the surface.

Are they safe for fish and wildlife?

All of our products are safe to use with the fish, frogs, turtles, etc. in your pond and the animals that come visit. Trout, koi, and channel catfish have a sensitivity to the copper in Mizzen. If you have these particular fish, use Cape Furl instead.

Will these pond clear products kill duckweed, algae, and submerged plants?

Dibrox will kill duckweed and a wide variety of submerged weeds. Mizzen is an algae killer for ponds. SparKlear and dye are not designed to kill plants or algae.

When should I apply these pond treatment products?

Apply Dibrox and Mizzen when the water temperature is 60° F or warmer and the weeds/algae are actively growing. Apply SparKlear every 2-4 weeks when the air temperature is 50-90° F, and add dye anytime.

When will I see results after applying them?

  • After applying Mizzen algae pond treatment, you’ll see full results on the algae in 7-14 days.
  • After using Dibrox on duckweed, you’ll see results in 5-7 days. For submerged weeds, you’ll see full results in 17-21 days.

  1. Michael Brown

Have a 1/2 acre pond that averages 6-8′ deep. Mixed Dibrox at a rate of 6 oz/ gal. Broadcast 3 gal of that mixture around the shoreline. It’s been about 10 days and it helped with the moss but didn’t seem to do much to the duckweed

    • Katie Braton

Thanks for the review, Michael! We’d love to help figure out why the duckweed didn’t die off; give us a call to find a solution: 763-428-9777 option 2.

  2. Barry DeZeeuw (verified owner)

Works just as I had hoped. Makes me me feel safe to have my dogs in the pond again! I lost a dog to toxic algae a couple years ago. Thank you for putting this group of supplies together in one easy purchase!

  3. Charles Allen

Works perfectly. I have one acre pond and I’m very happy with the results. Took a few days to see a big difference but has done exactly what I wanted.

  4. Joe Blackwell

These are all good products. I have better luck buying each part as needed to target my ponds specific needs.

  5. Zen Agency

    Worked exactly as stated!

    Worked exactly as stated!

I have used all 4 products as recommended. So far they work great, just be careful when killing a lot a material in your pond. We didn’t know that when the weeds die it pulls oxygen out of the water. We lost several fish. So if your killing a lot of weeds you might want to do it in sections.

  8. Anonymous (verified owner)

I can always count on Lake Restoration products to keep my pond beautiful, and they are simple to use !

  9. Anonymous (verified owner)

    did not eliminate duckweed

  10. Anonymous (verified owner)

Worked just like they said it would. We will diffently be ordering from them again.

  11. Anonymous (verified owner)

My pond is registered as a fish hatchery and I used the herbicide Clipper to control weeds coming up from the bottom. The results were good and my wife is a swimmer and happy her feet do not touch weeds while swimming. I will use this again next year

  12. Robert (verified owner)

All good but had to use twice as much Mizzen to control algae.

  13. Anonymous (verified owner)

We have been struggling to just barely control filimentous alge. The algae was winning with mats of it floating over the pond area. We used another Algaecide product and stocked talipea fish that are supposed to consume the algae. That brought a modest control at best. Then we tried the Algaecide from Lake Restoration Inc entitled “Mizzen” and the results exceeded our best expectations. The costs are less than before with great results. “Our pond is totally clear of filamentous algae. “Bravo Mizzen!” Dan from East Texas

  14. Roxanne (verified owner)

I would have given it a 5, BUT! Chemical works, but sales information and customer comments were not clear that the chemicals would kill crayfish and worms, which my fish eat. Herbicide container warned that it would. Not real clear description on the time needed or what to expect. I only wanted to spot treat and leave some weeds to protect fish. Weeds sank and turned brown about a week later. However, I thought results would be within a couple of days, so, I retreated. I used a whole qt on about ½ acre pond. Bad idea!!!! Now, Osprey and Herron are having a smorgasbord on my catfish and bream. No place to hide… Be careful!

Duck Weed was completely covering my pond in early July. I used Dibrox in the morning and by the afternoon I could see the Duck Weed dying by the hour. I mixed Dibrox at a rate of 4 ounces per gallon in a fruit sprayer and sprayed a full stream into the center of the pond working to the side. I used just 8 ounces as I have a 1/4 pond. I rate this product a full 10. It is the best I have used. L. Smith

I have a 1 acre pond n my property that is about 50 years old ive owned it for 20 years the past 10 years it has been covered in alge and duckweed.I have spent a lot of money and time trying to get rid of this eye sore. This year I tried this product and the results were amazing I bought it in July weeds were gone in a month I will be treating with this again next summer thank you. ron from Ky.

  18. Cheryl (verified owner)

It is too soon to see if the duck weed will clear but the 30 vultures sitting around my pond make it clear that there was a major fish kill after the first application. This was supposed to be safe for the fish. Obviously, it was not. I am going to request a refund. Addendum: The company declined to refund my money after I communicated with them by email and my farm manager spoke with their sales rep by phone about how the chemical was applied. The company declines a refund “because they had no correspondence about how the chemical was applied.”!!!??? Email and phone isn’t enough? I have made a complaint to the Better Business Bureau in Minnesota where this company is located. In my experience, when a consumer is dissatisfied with how a product performs, a refund is given without hassle. Now I have had a different experience with Lake Restoration, Inc. We’ll see if the BBB has any teeth.

  19. Albert (verified owner)

I have a fairly new pond, but algae was taking over, even growing over the winter! I ordered a PONDRestore kit, used the chemicals as directed, and in two months or less, my pond was clear and pretty again. Over the summer, I have treated as needed, but relatively little has been needed. I am very pleased with the results. Albert Spencer Richmond, KY

Pond Restore Ultra is an excellant product. Easy applications. We built our home and 5/8 A. pond ten years ago. Started stocking our pond and tried many types of treatments with some success, but three years ago switched to Pond Restore Ultra and have had beautiful clear water ever since with a lot less effort.

  21. Alena (verified owner)

My pond was covered in duckweed. I tried the PONDRestore Ultra Kit and my pond is now clear of duckweed! I am extremely glad that I have used your products! My pond looks beautiful!
