FAQ

What is Hydrothol used for?

It is a broad-spectrum granular herbicide and algaecide that will provide control for submerged aquatic weeds and algae. Dosage rates will vary based on the type of vegetation that you are trying to control. This aquatic herbicide works great on eliminating Hydrilla and pond weeds in your lake.

What is the main ingredient in Hydrothol?

The main active ingredient in Hydrothol Granular is mono (N,N-dimethylalkylamine) salt of endothall 11.2%

How do you apply Hydrothol?

Broadcast the granules as evenly as possible in the treatment area using a scoop or a handheld spreader.

Are granular herbicides better than liquid herbicides?

This is your choice! Some prefer using granules over liquid because you don’t have to dilute and mix the solution that needs to be sprayed in the treatment area. You will get great results using either granules or liquid herbicides in your pond or dock and swim area.

Is Hydrothol Granular herbicide safe?

There are no restrictions for irrigation or livestock watering. Potable water intakes in the treated body of water must be greater than 600 feet away. If you use Hydrothol Granular in your pond, we recommend treating in sections so you do not deplete the oxygen levels. Also, wait a minimum of 14 days before re-applying. Do not use in ponds that have trout or koi.

Will Hydrothol kill my lake weeds?

Hydrothol Granular is a rapid-acting contact granular herbicide that is used to treat a wide range of underwater weeds, while simultaneously controlling problematic algae. It works great on nearly all submerged aquatic plants, such as: Hydrilla, milfoil, coontail, Elodea, and pondweeds.

When should I apply Hydrothol Granular?

You should apply Hydrothol Granular when the lake weeds are actively growing and at or near the surface. For best results, we recommend applying on a day with calm water, clear skies, and no water turbulence. You will see best results when the water temperature is 60° F or warmer.

When will I see results after applying a granular herbicide?

You will see full results 17-21 days after applying Hydrothol. Re-treatment is recommended as needed, approximately every 4-6 weeks, or when plants are back to the surface and actively growing.

Like the granular pellets. Easy to apply and the results are keeping our little pond clean. Thanks.

i put a comment on here about them not putting on the description that it is toxic to fish. I emailed Katie and she called me back the next day. I was shocked, lol. She told me I could return it, or I could use it in small amounts, and do sections of my pond at a time. I have done 2 sections now and this stuff works great.I`m very pleased with the results. thanks for being so helpful and kind.

I read a lot of comments and all i could find about this product before buying it. I buy it and get the bag out and read it it and BAM HIGHLY TOXIC TO FISH. WHY can`t they put that in the 1st. line, that way people can go on to find something that`s NOT TOXIC TO FISH. Now I have to do the return thing and wait on that, then re- order something that WON`T KILL MY FISH I HAVE SPENT A FORTUNE ON.

    Very good

My experience is similar to the June 8, 2021 reviewer. We purchased in may 2020. At that time the website stated: Water use restrictions— Swimming zero days Fishing. Zero days Drinking water. Zero days When the product arrived it openly states it can kill fish & should not be used within 500’ of your water intake. Jenni Oxley was extremely slow to reply & did so only after I sent multiple emails. She was rude & said she had no control of the website information. Her comment was that I should have read the labels available in the website. Since the website said the water was drinkable at zero days, silly me did not think it necessary to read the labels. Her suggestion was that I return it at my expense which did not seem fair to me. They have removed drinking water from the website but I do have a screenshot with the 2020 water use restriction. Very disappointing experience.

0my God this product trained me to kill reeves trees.

  11. Anonymous (verified owner)

This stuff is AWESOME. I NEVER leave reviews on something unless it is a complete bust or amazing and this is definitely amazing. We have a 15 acre lake on our property in Central Texas and the hydrilla was awful. We used this stuff and it is the first time I could swim off the boat ramp, out to the middle without touch the hydrilla!! Will be buying more next year!

  12. Anonymous (verified owner)

Easy to apply, I’ve been using this product for about 10 years. Apply once in the late spring, and its good for all year.

Excellent product for controlling weeds along the shoreline.

  15. Ronnie (verified owner)

Product worked great. Much better than I expected. We will be ordering every year. Thank you

  16. Anonymous (verified owner)

Works within two weeks in my pond.

  17. Anonymous (verified owner)

I like the price compared to other brands and it works just as good! Seeing less weeds this year, second year of using it and i will continue to purchase it if price doesn’t go up. I’d like to see if there is something that treats the “crab grass” type of weed, it gets brown but we go in and have to rake it out and the roots are deep! Leaves a big whole when it comes out finally.

First of all, Shipping is outstanding! I ordered on a Sunday and received product on Tuesday. Only 2 days, unheard of. I like the product, works pretty fast, will have to treat one more time pretty soon.

We have used HD granular for 4 years now. While it worked on the weeds the first year or so, now it controls none of them. Probably have eliminated the susceptible weeds and now have the more resistant ones left.

  20. Ken (verified owner)

Hard to say much more than it simply works if you have the weeds that are in its list to control best.

This is my second year using HG and it seems to have a cumulative effect since there we very few weeds this year compared to last. For reference, we’re located on Little Pine Lake on the Whitefish Chain in Crosslake, MN

  23. Augi (verified owner)

Works well to control weeds around my dock and lift. I have used it for a few years now, when looking at neighboring slips mine is by far the clearest. Would have given 5 stars but some weeds still manage to grow. Cheapest control I have found though.

  24. Anonymous (verified owner)

Been a user for 4 yrs. Eliminates 95% of the weeds allowing for easy pulling of the remaining weeds.

Do you have sales in Europe?

  26. Anonymous (verified owner)

What aquatic plants are resistant to this product so we can plant them and return oxygen to the lake?

  27. Anonymous (verified owner)

Will this work in water and on weeds like bull rush wild rice?

  29. Teresa (verified owner)

Love the granular pellets. Easy to apply from the dock with a broadcast spreader. We have curly – leaf pond weed, milfoil and hydrilla. Also a little algae along the shore. This works great on all. We apply early summer and early fall.
