FAQ

What is Dibrox used for?

Dibrox is a highly concentrated pond herbicide and lake herbicide. Dibrox is fast-acting and non-selective, which makes it a great aquatic weed killer. It is a great pond weed killer used for eliminating duckweed fast or for effectively killing submerged weeds.

What is the main ingredient in Dibrox?

The main active ingredient in Dibrox herbicide is diquat dibromide 37.3%. This is the same active ingredient as Diquat herbicide and Reward herbicide.

How do you apply Dibrox?

Mix it with water in a pump sprayer or use our Tormada product application boat. You can spray the mixture evenly across the surface where weeds are floating or submerged, or you can even do an injection spray where the lake weeds are really dense.

Is Dibrox safe for fish?

Dibrox herbicide is a pond safe weed killer that is absorbed by the targeted plants within minutes. There is no toxicity to fish or wildlife.

Is Dibrox herbicide safe?

Dibrox herbicide is safe to use around children, pets, and livestock animals when applied according to the product label.

Will Dibrox kill duckweed?

When treating for duckweed, results will be seen in 5-7 days. After 5-7 days, any remaining duckweed would need a secondary treatment. The duckweed will turn brown after treatment, then disappear.

When should I apply Dibrox herbicide?

We recommend applying when the submerged weeds are present and actively growing in your pond or lake. The water temperature should be 50° F or warmer. The products works best in slow moving water and when it is applied on a calm, clear, sunny day.

When will I see results after applying Dibrox herbicide?

Results will be seen within 5-7 days for floating plants and 17-21 days for submerged vegetation. Use every 4-6 weeks or when aquatic plants regrow to the surface.

one application. 8 oz, late in the summer eradicated ALL of the hydrilla in my 1/4 acre pond. I expected results only from the small area treated however the single dose wiped it all out, now in the 2nd year. We fought the hydrilla for 15 years with every chemical, rake and cutter that I could find – nothing worked – we would pull out large mounds every year. What a joy!

  2. Kendall Card Card (verified owner)

Found this product thanks to great reps at lake restoration. I have been using for two summers now. This product works well on my acre pond. I am able to keep the amount of duckweed minimal with only a few treatments each summer.

  3. Nova Ferrington (verified owner)

This is a great product. Only thing I’ve ever found that kills the duckweed that tends to grow so quickly on my pond during the Florida summer heat.

  4. Terry Valentine (verified owner)

I treated 1/8 acre pond with duckweed . mix. 32 oz. in two gal. Sprayed pond only killed 1/3 of duckweed . duckweed is back over the pond.

    • Paul Kretsch (verified owner)

      Terry,
Would you mind sending us close-up photos of the duckweed growing on your pond to: plants@lakerestoration.com? We can help you get it under control!

  5. Tony

Have duckweed and water mill and the water mill was the worst. Treated it several times and kept coming back but was using Dibrox left over from last year which was probably got frozen over the winter. Treated it one more time with the old stuff but doubled the dosage and it worked great. I highly recommend it.

    • Katie Braton

Thanks for the great review, Tony! You are right; we recommend storing Dibrox where it won’t freeze. I see you have purchased Semera and surfactant a number of times to treat your watermeal; these are the exact products we recommend for watermeal and are glad they worked so well for you!

  6. Tom Sahlstrom (verified owner)

Works great. Took care of our Milfoil in a couple treatments. Would absolutely buy this product again.

  7. ELIZABETH HOLMES (verified owner)

Works Great! After just one treatment the weeds are gone!

  8. James lyles (verified owner)

I was recommended to try this product at my lake house . I mixed 30 gallons water 1/2 gallon dibiox had a sprayer with 10, hoses . Treated 3/4 acre. Hydrilla was very thick was gone in 7 days Great product . Will definitely buy again

  9. Scott Sorensen (verified owner)

I’ve been trying to control floating algae on my small pond for several years. I’ve tried several products unsuccessfully. I called lake restoration and talked to Katie who recommended Mizzen,Dibrox and Phos control. I sprayed and added these products and have had better success with these than the other products I have tried. It’s been about 3 weeks and the floating algae has turned a reddish brown color which I think means it is dead. It is not completely gone though. I called again and talked to Katie who said it can take up to 3 weeks and to spray again if the green returns. Some green color has returned so I’ve recently sprayed that and am waiting to see the results. Katie has been very helpful to work with.

I use this and Mizzen on Duckweed and Algae in my pond. Works great!

  11. John Lueders

Our HOA has a 1/3 acre detention pond that was approximately 70% covered with water meal and duckweed. A two outlet aerator is employed to help support some grass eating carp. I sprayed it two times over a 2 week period with 16 ounces of Dibrox in 2 gallons of water with a garden sprayer. The pond has never looked this good. After the last application the pond was 90% clear. I received great reviews from the residents adjacent to the pond.

  12. scott

I have a two acre and a 1/2-acre pond. When i bought the property, it was overrun with weeds and Alge I have been using Dibrox for a few years now and I have tried other things also but have found nothing that works as good as Dibrox Customer service has been great over the years 5-star company. 14. William Thayer (verified owner)

A year later after my old pond turned into a wall to wall Hydrilla hydroponic garden and I used Dibrox last July after reading about it all over and found it here.
Well June 1st is here again and my pond still looks clear and clean where I can actually see the swimming and crawling critters out there and it didn’t hurt any of them but the weeds are still gone…….I ordered another bottle just in case it happens again and used it on a local noxious weed which was hard to kill off and Dibrox also did the job and it didn’t take gallons of spraying or hundreds of dollars or hours of work.

    Thanks again

  15. Danny Lepard (verified owner)

Searched and found the Dibrox to try and get this pond weed under control. Being skeptical I ordered the smallest bottle. The small bottle makes one gallon. I mixed it up and waited to the wind died down , had the pump sprayer on fine mist and went to spraying. Checked the next morning and holy cow this Dibrox was already wilting the lake weed I had sprayed. By noon the weeds were already dark brown and dying fast. This product absolutely does as advertised. I will be ordering another small bottle to clean up a few small areas I missed. I sprayed about 350ft of shoreline. The average width of the weeds was about 3ft. What an awesome product. I highly recommend it. Absolutely no signs of harm to any of the wildlife in or around the pond as advertised.

    • Katie Braton

      Danny,
Thank you so much for the great review! Your specific explanations with dimensions will be helpful for other customers!

  16. Troy Robinson

I had significant hydrilla infestation around my boat house where I pump water for irrigation. )t is all over lake.) I treated approximately 3,000 ft and it did a fantastic job. Takes about 8 days for weeds to begin disintegrating.

  17. ROBERT RETLICH (verified owner)

  19. jmfre50 (verified owner)

I have been using Dibrox for several years now to control under water growth. It has always worked as intended with no disappointments. It is the first application I make every year to my 2 acre pond.

  20. Janet (verified owner)

After ordering the product was damaged in shipping. UPS called me and contacted the company, the company, called me and within a few days. A very nice lady from the company called me and I received my product. After a few days the weeds are dying and the pond is looking nicer. Thank you! Now I need to get the algae under control,

  21. Tom Moore (verified owner)

This is my second year using Dibrox and it works really well for our small pond area. Within a few days of application the weeds begin to die. The fish, turtles, and frogs all seem to be fine. No issues with swimming in the area either.

  22. William Thayer

My pond was wall to wall Hydrilla and the last several years it was a mess all summer into fall and made the pond pitiful so I looked around and found Dibrox here and ordered the small bottle in case it didn’t work.

It really is strong as far as mixing it up in a 2 gallon spray jug and I got 8 refills in the sprayer with that tiny bottle and went out and sprayed a section and 2 days later there was nothing there so I did the same spraying around the pond and now there are no more Hydrilla anywhere and it even made those floating seeds disappear.

It didn’t kill any swimming creatures or crawling critters (crawdads) or even insects BUT killed those evil Hydrilla so my pond looks like it does in January again………so I will be making a new order to make sure I don’t have the pond destroyed again next year.

  23. Lt Col John D Bowman (verified owner)

Have used this on my 3.3 acre pond for about 15 years. Pond is up to 31 ft deep but was experiencing coontail and duckweed issue. It worked better than advertised with no adverse effect on the fish. Bottom is clear and clean as well as lake edges.

  24. Lee Boock

Our pond was full of duck weed and after spraying the pond with Dibrox the duckweed started turning brown almost instantly. I think it is a great product and will continue to use the product this spring.

  25. Susan Summer

I have been using Dibrox for the past 3 summers. Our pond was filled with tall under water weeds that would reach the surface each year. Since i have been using Dibrox and stay on top of the new growth, it works awesome. I cleaned up our neighbors pond with it too. Doesn’t harm the fish, frogs or turtles.

  26. relax

Used Dibrox to target milfoil in a 75’x300’ boat harbor, it started knocking it down in about a week after treatment . I retreated in four weeks and it totally eradicated the unwanted weeds . It didnt effect fish or waterfowl. Ive used other products but this is the only one that worked for me . Shipping was fast. Thanks LR

  27. Darryl

I cant believe the compliments I receive on my pond. Dibrox is a great weed killer and using Mizzon and Sparklear followed up with some dye you will have the best looking pond anywhere. These products are awesome!

  28. Henry (verified owner)

This stuff is simply amazing. .if I did not see it I would not believe how great it worked. 18 ounces per gallon, sprayed once 4 hours later all duck weed is brown 2 days later it is all gone…

I can’t say enough about my experience with making a recent purchase with Lake Restoration. Living in New York there was some specific paperwork needed to obtain the herbicide I was interested in for my pond. The Customer Service Coordinator, (Katie) not only walked me thru the process but also emailed me the specific links for my state that made it easy to navigate. Katie stayed in touch with me throughout the entire process. My purchase was not large monetarily but Katie made me feel like I was a priority and that she was working just for me. WELL DONE Katie and the whole Lake Restoration team.

1/3 acre pond was covered with duckweed sprayed what I could reach with a garden sprayer 18 oz per gallon I used 2 gallons, within 4 hrs it was turning brown! Did same thing 10 days later it’s been 14 days since I started. My pond has never looked this good Great product Thanks so much

  31. Frederick (verified owner)

Sprayed this on my duckweed that had just about covered my 1/4 pond. Did about 1/3 of it this first day and about 4 hours later the section I sprayed had started to turn brown and die. 2 days and a big rain storm later and the duckweed is just about all gone. I will definitely keep a supply of this around to treat outbreaks as they occur.

We received the product yesterday with the boat applicator. We had to charge the battery even though it said it would come fully charged. After 9 minutes on a full charge the battery died and now the boat is stuck in the middle of the pond. Battery was supposed to last 20 minutes. Now I’m wondering if it will even work on the duckweed. Disappointed!

  35. Russ (verified owner)

I had duckweed all over my pond that it looked like you could walk on it. I purchased just a quart to see if it would work. I sprayed the 32 oz. to 2 gallons of water in a back pack sprayer on a Thursday evening around 4:30pm and my wife sent me a picture on Friday at 2:00pm and at least 15 feet all around the edges were turning brown. By Sunday the pond started to clear up but after a week the duckweed was back but very thin so I purchased another half gallon.

  36. Guy (verified owner)

I treated a 1/8 to 1/4 acre pond covered thick with Duckweed. I applied Dibrox two days ago, mix; 18 to 20 Oz to 1-1/2 gallons of water in a garden sprayer with the nozzle adjusted so it dispensed rain drop size droplets. In two days Duckweed is almost all TERMINATED. Only dead brownish duckweed remains after two days, even the middle area where my sprayer won’t reach is dead. In a couple more days it will be totally gone!!!!! Easy…….

  37. Craig (verified owner)

My pond was filled with hydrilla. It completely solved the problem! Fish friendly.

My pond is 100’x150′ and was completely covered with duckweed. It is full of fish, frogs, turtles and we have a swan, 2 geese and 6 ducks. I was afraid to treat it with ANY chemicals but I took a chance on this product based on other’s comments. It worked like magic – took about 8 days to totally clear the pond. I mixed 18oz with one gallon of water and simply sprayed the outside perimeter – a second treatment is not going to be necessary. I did not have one dead fish, frog, turtle, swan, goose or duck! I love this product and urge anyone with duckweed to use it with confidence.

  41. Robert (verified owner)

used this product for the first time 2 weeks ago…within a few days plants were dying, after a week it had done the job! Will definitely buy again.

We used this product for the first time last year. Duckweed had taken over until it was a solid mass. Locals did not know what it was or how to treat it. Lake Restoration to the rescue! Ponds cleared up and this year we manage our issues proactively with the help of your staff and your products. Thanks so much. Brad Robbins Greenbrier , AR
