Spikerush stems are straight and grow in clusters from the rhizomes. There are no leaves; flowers grow atop the stems.
Description
Spikerush stems are unbranched with many gas canals in each cross section. They grow in clusters from the rhizomes.
There are no leaf blades, but there are sheaths at the base of the stems. Spikerushes produce few to many flowers. If there are multiple flowers, they grow in clusters.
There are about 150 species of spikerushes worldwide, and many of them are aquatic. Spikerushes can be submersed or emersed. Depending on the species, spikerushes can be anywhere from six inches to more than four feet tall.
