Salt grass has rigid stems and grassy leaves that grow one to six inches long. Tan spikelets hold wide spiky flowers up to three inches long.

Description

Salt grass grows in brackish water. It has rigid stems that grow up to two feet tall from the rhizomes.

Grassy leaves grow opposite each other one to six inches long and a quarter of an inch wide. They are stiff and flat or folded or rolled with a sharp point at the tips.

Tan spikelets hold wide spiky flowers up to three inches long.

 

Salt grass is an important food source for birds and geese.
